Giro d’Italia Stage 8 Route Profile

This weekend, we have Mountains on the menu !

Stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia, on 15th May 2021, from Foggia — Guardia Sanframondi, 170kms with an elevation gain of 3000m. Can be watched live on EuroSport or on GCN +.

For stage 8, we have rolling hills again right from the start. The route has 2 uncategorised hills in the first half of the stage, and two categorised climbs in the second half.

The first intermediate sprint is at 84km from the start line, near Campobasso. The second intermediate sprint is at 162.7 kms from the start line, at Castelvenere, just 7.3kms from the finish. Both these intermediate sprints look to be on a slight gradient.

The first of the two categorised climbs (Bocca della Selva) starts at 100.2 kms from the start line (70km from the finish). It is a category 2 climb, with a total length of around 19 kms, at an avg gradient of 4.6%.

This is the longest and the toughest climb of the day. The riders will have to descend for around 38 kms to reach the bottom of the second climb.

The second categorised climb (Guardia Sanframondi) looks to be around 10km in length. The first 7kms of the climb avg around 3%, with the final 3 kms having avg gradient of around 8%.

With the undulating route profile, and not so tough climbs (for pro-riders), todays stage is another one where we can expect a breakaway win. It is going to be a furious start, just like the one in stage 6, and we can expect fireworks from some of the puncheurs today.

Would you bet on a breakaway win today?
